Race, Gender, and the U.S. Citizen-Soldier

Please join us for the public lecture on gender, race, military service, and citizenship. General Anderson will share her personal experiences and observations as a citizen-soldier and woman of color successfully navigating the challenges posed by the military’s professional culture. This virtual event is offered as part of the CSLD’s Civil-Military Initiative.
Major General Anderson earned a J.D. degree from the Rutgers University School of Law. In her civilian career, she served for 28 years in the U. S. Courts, culminating as the Clerk of the Bankruptcy Court, Western District of Wisconsin. Promoted to Major General in 2011, she is the first African American woman in the U.S. Army (Active, Reserve and National Guard branches) to attain two-star rank.
