The Center for the Study of Liberal Democracy (CSLD) is please to announce it will be holding a two-day Civic Literacy and Citizenship symposium at the Great Wolf Lodge in Wisconsin Dells on June 29-30, 2026. The event is co-sponsored with the Jack Miller Center for Teaching America’s Founding Principles and History. This symposium is targeted toward high school educators and seeks to enhance high school teaching in texts and ideas that contribute to a deeper understanding of America’s history, citizenship, founding principles, and the wider traditions that influenced their development.
This year, the theme for the symposium is Cultivating Civic Virtue. Drawing on foundational approaches to civic virtue, we will explore how educators can incorporate moral and civic formation in the classroom. We will do so by interrogating historically grounded principles and traits of engaged citizenship, and by equipping participants to teach this to their own students in this unique moment 250 years after America’s founding. We invite Wisconsin high school educators to complete the form below to indicate your interest in this event.
