Please join us Thursday November 12, 2020 at 9:30 am for a discussion with Dr. Donald Downs, exploring the dynamic and sometimes tense civil-military relationship between the armed forces and U.S. universities.

Dr. Downs is the Alexander Meiklejohn Professor of Political Science Emeritus, and the Affiliate Professor of Law, and Journalism Emeritus at UW-Madison. In addition, he is the co-founder of the UW-Madison’s Center for the Study of Liberal Democracy (CSLD). His scholarship addresses a wide range of issues dealing with freedom of speech; academic freedom; American politics; political thought; political and legal movements; citizenship; campus politics; domestic violence, psychiatry, and the criminal law; and the relationship among the military, the university, and civic education.

CSLD is hosting Dr. Down’s talk as part of its Civil-Military Relations Initiative.
