UW Law School, Room 7200
@ 6:00 pm

This fifth talk in the Order & Influence lecture series discusses the past and present role of the Jesuit order in bridging the divide between secular and spiritual concerns, historically and in the modern era. Presenter Rev. Patrick Gilger, S.J., is Assistant Professor of Sociology and Director of the McNamara Center for the Social Study of Religion at Loyola University Chicago. His current book project, The Subject of Public Religion, examines how religious practices shape democratic citizens.

The Order & Influence lecture series, sponsored by the CSLD’s Catholic Social & Political Thought initiative, highlights the influence of religious orders and lay associations on broader cultural and political life through an examination of the unique history and charisms of six prominent religious communities.
