Quill Project Study Abroad (2026)

Spend two weeks at Oxford this summer studying the foundations of American constitutional democracy. The Center for the Study of Liberal Democracy (CSLD) is partnering with the Quill Project, an Oxford-based research initiative, to send two UW Law students to the Quill Project’s Constitutional Foundations summer program, running July 26 through August 8, 2026.

The program draws on the Quill Project’s unique digital archive to explore how constitutional language is negotiated and contested. Students will engage with the historical record of the 1787 Constitutional Convention, develop skills in historical interpretation, and gain hands-on experience with the methods used to study constitutional conventions and founding-era documents, all in one of the world’s great academic settings.

This opportunity is well-suited for students interested in constitutional law, legal history, or the intellectual foundations of American democracy. Selection is competitive; two students will be chosen based on their applications. Law credit is available for participants. The total cost of the program is approximately $5,500, depending on exchange rates.

Students interested in applying should complete the form below by 11:59pm on Sunday, March 15th. Applicants can expect to hear from us the following week with further details.
