John Sharpless

Biography

John Sharpless is an emeritus professor in the Department of History at UW-Madison. He has BA and BS in Economics from the University of Minnesota as well as a PhD in History from The University of Michigan. His areas of research are social and demographic history, public policy and recent political history. He is presently at work on the history and politics of the 2nd Amendment. He ran for the U.S. Congress in the Wisconsin Second District in 1998 and 2000 on the Republican ticket. His most recent publication is Wisconsin’s 37: The Lives of Those Missing in Action in the Vietnam War by Erin Miller and John Sharpless (McFarland Press, 2018). Professor Emeritus Sharpless continues to serve on the CSLD Advisory Board.
