Patriotism is a disposition as old as political life. Yet patriotism or love of country has always had contend with a number of different loyalties, to family, sect, and clan. I seek to reclaim patriotism from two recent extremes, both the nationalist right and the multi-culturalist left. These extremes pose the most significant challenges to restoring a proper love of country.

Join us for a night of discussion with Yale professor of political science Steven B. Smith. Dr. Smith has written extensively on patriotism and its uses for society, and recently published a book on the topic, entitled “Reclaiming Patriotism in an Age of Extremism,” in 2021.
